Many First, why is this even a topic we need to discuss? Well, that is easy. 44.1 million Americans rent today and that statistic has got to change (Celia Miller, 2021). Day to day, the struggles of life revolve around many factors including raising a family, sending kids to college, buying that first car, paying bills, and working to put food on the table to name a few. Another struggle not on the list above is equally important and that is whether to rent or buy that first home we live in. This decision can be one of the most important a person can make and if you get that decision wrong, it could cost you a significant amount of money in the long run.
Now I understand not everyone wants to buy a home and many are very comfortable with renting right now. I get it, buying a home is a major decision and could impact your creditworthiness if you bite off more than you can chew. I would even be willing to say that most cannot afford to purchase a home right now due to finances, kids in college, or too many bills on their shoulders however, I implore you to reconsider that decision. Buying a home is an investment in yourself and your financial future so why wouldn’t you want to do that? It can be one of the best financial decisions you can make and will be the bedrock for reaching your financial dreams. Not to mention homeownership is part of the American dream… don’t you want to see that dream come true?
